<description>I am a patrol sergeant for the Englewood Police Department. I have always had a special interest in performance appraisals. As such, while attending the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety, School of Police Staff and Command in October of 2001, I wrote a thesis on the use of written performance appraisals for patrol officers. My paper questions the use of traditional performance appraisals and examines alternative methods of providing documentation, timely feedback to employees, employee input, etc. If you would be interested in this perspective, I would be very happy to send you a copy. I am not a published writer by any stretch of the imagination however, you might find the content interesting.
