This hits home! Thank you Ed.
I believe that we live and work in a new world. This world is the world of continuous selling. Some at my workplace think I’m off my rocker. Maybe, or maybe I have vision into the future.
The jobs I get hired for around my company have been based upon my USP and networking skills. Those two things have been my secret weapon. And here is the best part. Distinguishing yourself is so easy. Most people in dredging through corporate America are barely performing. They are easy to beat. It doesn’t take much effort.
In the future, these skills of personal branding and networking will be critical more so than they are now. I promote myself and what I do where ever I go at my company. You would think I am a paid outside consultant trying to drum up business. I really don’t see any difference. This mission of branding myself as “The Happy Maker” has paid off big. Many call me to speak, teach, or run critical workshops. I am first on their mind in their contact list.
If I need to switch jobs, who do you think they will remember first in a pool of 200 or 300 applicants?
