Ed:

You served up an insightful metaphor, you "nicked" him for quite a few points and you created a different lens for leadership.

I believe in leadership, for me, I want to be his partner so we both win.

Take care and lots of "LOVE" for the people you play against.

This is a great article!
Being a tennis player myself, I completely understand adjusting your strategy to meet the demands of the situation.

Of course -- why wouldn't this apply to leadership. A particular leadership style is going to differ from situation to situation, depending on the nature of what is being led, the people involved, and the environment in which you are leading. Being sensitive to these factors and making adjustments to drive toward success is surely relevant.

Thank you for the ideas!

I love it! If managers want to be effective, they must make adjustments in their style based on the situation and the people.

In addition, I'll make adjustments to my tennis game. Thanks for the insight!

I agree 100%. often time we did not adjust to the situation, instead we react to it. When the ball comes fast you tend to swing faster tring to send it back even faster. You might get the glory for that moment but you loose the focus on the overall goal.

Great article on "Leadership-What I Learned from Tennis".
How true that is in management! You can't manage all situations or people the same-you have to adjust your style as the situation warrants!

I have a staff meeting soon with my managers, and I intend to discuss this article with them!

Thanks for sharing this insight!
