Unlike communication
flows, or how information is exchanged between the various functional
areas internal and external to an organization, a communication
plan describes how you and your organization will share the progress
you are making and actions you are taking with regard to the change
initiatives or the overall organizational strategy.
An effective communication plan
helps alleviate concerns from key stakeholders while ensuring their
buy-in by addressing several very focused issues:
- What actions have been taken
- Status and progress of projects, initiatives or strategy
- Who specific information should be communicated to
- How specific information should be communicated
- Address the primary concerns that specific stakeholders
might have
As organizations begin to change and grow, those that work with and for them,
have an innate need to understand where the organization is going. Developing
a well thought out communication plan becomes a key step in rolling out new
strategy to the organization and is the first step in ensuring success for
change.
