The measurement of Personal Skills/Competencies has been a major challenge in the past. You haven't been able to do it! You might have found someone who had the perfect behavior for a job, and they were greatly motivated by the rewards of the job, yet you could NOT accurately predict their success in the job. Why? Because you could not answer the question, "WHAT can they do?" (Based on having the right personal competencies/attributes).
Of course, you could do 360 degree assessments if the candidate happened to be already inside your organization, but you have experienced the challenges and costs of 360's.
And you could certainly do behavioral interviewing, but the effectiveness is too dependent upon the interviewer. Furthermore, some people are good in interviews and some are not.
The breakthrough is your ability to now measure personal competencies, or Attributes, directly! And you can do so with accuracy, validity and reliability. Our Attribute Index profile is an index that measures degree of capability, or strength, in up to 80 different Attributes. The instrument has five major advantages: |
- All the input is provided by the candidate.
- It takes only twenty minutes to complete.
- It is impossible to deceive the instrument.
- It can be completed online.
- It has been highly validated - meeting all the EEOC requirements.

There is an irony about this breakthrough. This basic assessment capability has been around for decades. It was the life work of Dr. Robert S. Hartman, who was nominated for a Nobel Prize for its development in 1973.
Unfortunately, he died just a few months later, and his amazing work was turned over to the Hartman Institute, whose members were more interested in research and academic aspects of what was called the Hartman Value Index than the business uses of the tool. Over the last three decades they have added value to the research through numerous validation studies.
Enlightened Leadership is proud to be part of a strategic alliance now making Dr. Hartman's groundbreaking work easily accessible to business, government and non-profit organizations. Dr. Hartman developed the science of axiology , a mathematically accurate assessment that objectively identifies how our mind analyzes and interprets our experiences. It identifies how we are most likely to react to a given situation and helps us to understand the patterns we use to form judgments and make decisions. It assesses our clarity and our focus both internally and externally, which is then tied to over 80 personal competencies, or attributes.
The Attribute Index is the missing piece that assesses/measures the personal skills/ competencies/attributes of candidates for jobs and existing employees for development purposes. |
Our Own Example
It was so clear after multiple interviews that she was a good fit for the job. I was wrong. This statement was made by Ed Oakley , Enlightened Leadership's CEO, who has many years of interviewing and hiring experience. The situation was the hiring of an executive assistant.
He made the mistake that so many of us do. He "liked" the candidate, "liked" their resume, and "liked" how they interviewed. Fortunately, before making the final decision, we asked the candidate to take our General Employability Personal Talent Skills Inventory.
The result was a little startling. The report showed that, while the candidate had many excellent personal skills, she was poor in "Attention to Detail" and "Following Directions," both of which were really important in this particular job. As we discussed the situation afterward, we began to realize that there had been clues about the candidate that we had ignored because we liked her. Fortunately, we did the assessment and did not hire this person. |
The graphic above is another way of depicting the multidimensional nature of people. The only observable layers are the hard skills and the behaviors. Each additional layer uncovers deeper and deeper dimensions of the candidate.
The Personal Talent Skills Inventory provides the final piece that allows selection decisions to hit the bull's eye.
Several versions of the Personal Talent Skills Inventory are available for different positions/applications. Click on an interest area for a sample report: |
The Personal Talent Skills Inventory has had over 28 individual validation studies performed over the last 30 years by more than 19 separate examiners. Successful studies on construct, concurrent, criterion, face and predictive validity assure meeting all EEOC requirements. |
